Kuwait: Playback singers record songs for soundtracks, and actors or actresses lip-sync the songs for cameras.
Movies produced in the Indian subcontinent are particularly known for using this technique. A majority of Bollywood films typically include six or seven songs.
Popular playback singers in India enjoy the same status as popular actors, and talented music directors. Indian singer S.P.Balasubrahmaniam holds the world record in the Guinness for having sung the most number of song recordings by any singer and the record for a female singer is held by Lata Mangeshkar, known as the nightingale of India. Other popular singers include Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam, Sonu Nigam, etc.
Songs in Bollywood movies - the combined products of the talents of lyricists, music directors, composers, and singers - often determine the extent of success of individual Indian movies; as such, playback singers are an important part of the film industry.
Kuwait based singer Riyaz K was specially flown to Bombay for an audition and playback a song called ‘Life is money, money’ in T-Bush International Films Kahin Na Kahin Milenge, the first Bollywood film to be shot in Kuwait.
“The song which has superb music by Nazhir Mahte will definitely gell with the audience, “disclosed an excited Riyaz on the eve of the Premiere.
Born and brought up in Kuwait, Riyaz started singing at an early age of seven when he first appeared on stage at a school function. “The only dream which I had was to be a playback singer in Bollywood movies,” says the young singer.
Riyaz has sung at several prestigious, professional and cultural functions in Kuwait and has been a part of different kinds of musical concerts organized in Kuwait. Opportunity struck and Riyaz found himself selected to sing for KAHIN NA KAHIN MILENGE. The singer renders his voice to the film along with India’s famous singer Kumar Sanu and many other playback singers from Bollywood.
