Kuwait Oct 31: Goans had an amusing evening at the ‘Love You Goa’ Mega Musical Concert organized by Kala Mogui Kuwait (KMK) on 14th October 2016 at the American International School Auditorium.

Credit for organizing the show, consisting of some latest superstars from Goa, goes to KMK President Domingos Araujo and its Event Coordinator Gabriel Felix Fernandes.

A colorful, lighted sets, rarely seen for Goan shows, electrified the stage backdrop adding sparkle to the stars on stage.

Except for some unusual cracking and dumb cordless mics at times which irritated everyone including the artistes, the show was quite interesting and entertaining for the audience which was fairly average in attendance.

Only Lorna, the Konkani movies screened in Kuwait, and KMK’s last show ‘Mango Bonanza’ has drawn houseful crowds in Kuwait; the latter perhaps being a free show.

O’LUV SHOWS HIS CLASS

One of the major attractions of the show was O’luv Rodrigues, a promising Konkani pop singer. He did not disappoint the audience in the songs that he sang. Oluv’s entry on stage from amidst the audience sparking ‘honks’ of the traditional Goan ‘poder’ was wonderful.

The mega star sang his trademark song ‘Love You Goa’, a nice, catchy song, apart from singing Sounsarant Sovaskai Nam, Suknnean Soirik Moddli, Kor Kantar, Moga Mandoline, Score a Goal, and ‘Ami Goykar’.

For sure, the singer demonstrated diversity in style from the customary Tiatr singers. His song ‘Sonvsarant Sovoskai Nam’ and the song on Goan Football were outstanding. A group of dancing children accompanied the star on stage during some songs which made the performances special.

DANCING KIDS DELIGHT

The dancing kids were simply amazing and well admired by the audience.

The little dancing angels included Arana Lourenco, Chanele Maria Fortes, Anna George, Raina Alva, Jelena Mathias, Kiannah Raymond, Irene Lins, Amala Biju, Trista David, Tanya Coutinho, Anthia Ferrao, Ella Pereira, SriRam Ramesh Kumar, Edlyn Ananda, Mehul Khedekar, Ananya Sawant and Harshal Fernandes.

The dances were incredibly choreographed to attractive steps and rhythm by Miss Penny Rebello of Penny’s Dance-Aerobic & Yoga Academy who was later presented with a memento for her efforts.

OTHER STAR PERFORMERS

Famous Goan Tiatr singer Olga Vaz, as expected, was excellent in her songs. Her aggressive political solos received great applause and encores while her songs with Anil Pednekar were good too.

Saby de Divar was delightful as usual, his duet ‘Bailanchi Zat’ with Kuwait-based superstar Gracy Rodrigues was greatly applauded by the audience.

Joyrus Mascarenhas and Divya Naik, two young and upcoming singers from Goa were fluent in their songs. Joyrus’ first song was Kiteak Kortai Nokre from Bhuerantlo Munis, his other song was on Goan musicians during which he played the trumpet as well. Both Joyrus and Divya were fabulous.

Divya Naik sang yesteryear tribute hits ‘Pixem’ of Antonette Mendes, Meu Amor of Usha Uttap, Cha Cha Cha (of Mangalorean star Preema Rodrigues) and Noketr Udentichem (of Hema Sardesai).

Albino Lourenco sang Viva La Goa, a tribute song to melody king Alfred Rose.

Simon and Olinda Fernandes sang an interesting love song called ‘Mog’, Simon later sang a solo which was flawless.

GOA’S SUPERSTAR LIVES UP TO HIS IMAGE

Goa’s superstar Prince Jacob is always a phenomenon on stage. His noble presence and clean comedy along with his brother comedian Humbert has probably stamped a legacy and won a place of pride for Goan Tiatr comedy and comedians.

One of the act performed by the two brothers entitled S.M.B was so hilarious, it was a super-duper laugh riot. Audience anywhere in Konkan world would love to watch the brothers perform this particular skit again and again.

KUWAITI SINGER STEALS THE LIMELIGHT

Though a Konkani musical, one of the best songs of the show, was a Hindi song sung by a popular Kuwaiti singer Mubarak Al Rashid. He sang ‘My Name is Anthony Gonsalves’, a song from the popular 1977 film Amar Akbar Anthony.

The singer’s ‘hero’ presence on stage was dazzling while his voice was as impeccable as Kishore Kumar, the original playback singer of the song.

SPECIAL GUEST & DIGNITARIES

The evening was attended by Ms. Kyoko Matsukawa, a Japanese Researcher who has done extensive research on language issues in Goa in the recent past. Ms. Kyoko flew all the way from Japan especially for the event.

The young researcher amazed everyone by speaking in Konkani at the beginning of the show. She said she was thrilled to be at the ‘Konkani’ show and among ‘friendly’ Goans.

Mr. Kamal El Din Hussain – Manager, Kuwait Continental Hotel was a special guest on the occasion.

Mr. Robin Joseph – Assistant Manager, Expat Properties, Mr. Kalum S. Wijesinghe – Managing Director, Mirage Media Production & Event Management, Mrs. Sayanora Viegas – Dana Optics Co., major sponsors of the event, were also present.

Major sponsors were presented mementos by Kala Mogui Kuwait as a token of appreciation while all the artistes were handed gifts sponsored by Dana Optics Co.
KMK President Domingos Araujo in his speech wholeheartedly thanked the audience for gracing the occasion. He also thanked everyone who helped in supporting the mega event.

MUSICIANS PAR EXCELLENCE

The Musicians played pleasing music. Young Goan Maestro Selvyn Braganza, who guided the band, looked immaculate on the trumpet.

Selvyn was accompanied by Semy Braganza (Trombone), Antonio Azavedo (Saxophone), Lenoy Gomendes (Keyboards), Francis X. D’Souza (Drums) and Gary Pinho (Bass Guitar). The blowing instruments gave great punch and perfection to the musical show.

The show was compered by Remus James and Teotonio D’Costa of Prudent Media, Goa.
