But, where would you find human instances of mimicry in olden days?
The first mimicry artiste might have been the people of stone age, the caveman, who mimicked or copied animal voices to keep them away. Like if a bear came near the caves at night, they may produce voices of a lion to fear him away.
While Johny Lever is known to be the King of Indian and Hindi mimicry, Goan artistes are not far behind. Late William de Curtorim was perhaps the pioneer of Konkani mimicry, however, most of his stunts were on audio only.
While Goan mimicry star Sheikh Amir is well-known for enacting the style and voice of many Goan celebrities including M. Boyer and Churchill Alemao, another stand-up comedian - Manohar Bhingi has been quite popular and synonymous for his depiction of Goan CM Parsekar.
MIMICRY ARTISTE AMRESH KAMAT
Come 2nd Dec, Kuwait audience will have a chance to watch yet another sensational mimicry star in the making – Amresh Kamat, a Goan based in Qatar, specializing in imitation of voices and actions of people and sundry, and even his predecessors.
Amresh is a regular feature at any kind of show in Qatar, he is also a great character actor who fits into any role.
In his short stint, Amresh has acted in Goa for renowned directors such as Prince Jacob, Francis de Tuem, Peter de Macazana, Franky D’Cunha, Roy de Chinchinim, Peter-Roshan, Comedian Succoro D’Silva, etc, and also supported William de Curtorim, C.D’Silva, Caje de Curtorim and Mini Mario.
In the Middle-East Gulf, Amresh has performed for Roseferns, Tony Dias, Francis de Tuem, Mario Menezes, Rafael de Borda, Jr. Roseferns, etc.
The lively star’s synchronized reproduction of both voice and action will have a great entertainment value for the Kuwait audience.
Wish the guy ‘Best’ in Maestro Shahu’s musical ‘TIATRISTPONN DEVACHEM DENNNEM’ – a charity show scheduled to be held 2nd Dec 2016 at SIMS School, Salmiya starting 4.30pm.
