Special Attraction: Jr. Rod in Kuwait

-By Gasper Crasto

Kuwait: Legendary Goan star Jr. Rod will be eloquently remembered during Domnic Fernandes’ Silver Jubilee Show of ‘MAIM PAI TIM MAIM PAI’ when Kuwait-based singer Pitu Ferns gets on stage to sing a song imitating the late singer.

‘MAIM PAI TIM MAIM PAI’ is set to be staged at SIMS school on 19th May 2017 starting 4.45 pm.

There is great similarity in Pitu’s voice and technique to that of Junior Rod. But then, ofcourse, Jr. Rod is Jr. Rod. However, it will surely be a treat to watch Pitu on stage imitating one of the great singers of all time.

A regular on Konkani stage in Kuwait, Pitu is a ‘ganv-bhav’ of the Jr. Rod and hails from Novo Palmar, Cortalim.

Pitu (Pedro Fernandes) has been a singer right from his school days. During his young age, Pitu’s singing talents were brought to light by Mr. Manuel Fernandes, a well-known playwright from Cortalim village in Goa, who mostly cast him in plays aired on All India Radio, Panaji.

A versatile singer with a deep baritone, Pitu has featured in Junior Rod’s audio CD ‘Devacho Ugddass Etolo’.

“Maestro Shahu Almeida gave me a break to sing on stage in Kuwait,” states Pitu adding he is ever indebted to the ace Goan musician for the encouragement.

Pitu has a Konkani audio CD ‘Hanv Tancho Upkari’ to his credit released in Kuwait, Goa and London simultaneously in 2014.

The album consisted songs composed by Pitu and sung by Marcus Vaz, Seby de Divar, Rosario de Benaulim, Antonette de Maina, Delton, Mario Pinto, Daisy, Comedian Selvy, Pitu Ferns and his son Francisco Ferns.

Pitu dedicated the album to the immortal love of his parents Bernardo Fernandes and Natalina Barretto.

The modest singer works for the Marzouk family in Kuwait since 1997. Happily married to Gracy Pereira, Pitu has 2 sons Francisco and Cedrick who are presently schooling and are both musicians-singers at a growing age.
