Kuwait is known to have produced some of the most vocal Goan writers, poets and scribes across the globe – both in Konkani as well as in English.
Several of these writers have been popular in newspapers, magazines, websites, as well as Facebook. However, popular among the book writers are:
- Bennet Paes, Assolna-born writer who returned to Goa for good in 2006 and has 2 books to his name - “Simply My Way” and “Love n Share It”.
- A. Veronica Fernandes hailing from Candolim - a freelance journalist and firebrand writer known for courageous exposés and opinions. Veronica who retired in 2015 writes regularly on various topics on his blog Goa Kranti.
Veronica has a book called ‘From Coconut Trees to Oil Wells’ – a well-documented memoir on his life that relates his links between Goa and Kuwait and the trauma of his ordeals in the aftermath of the Iraqi invasion.
- Gasper Crasto based in Kuwait is known for his news articles in the media and reviews, humor stories on his website 'gaspersworld’ ; he has 2 fiction books under his belt: - ‘A Rose is Not Just a Rose’, and - ‘Migrate Goa’
- Lino Dourado – a Konkani writer of poetry and humor articles, has published– 'Aitaracheo Katkutleo', a konkani book of humorous essays in Roman script.
A REAL DIAMOND
There may be other Kuwait-oriented Goan book writers.
Among the top-most is a hidden diamond that I recently came across. A widely traveled man enriched with different cultures, traditions, and histories of the world.
He is based in Kuwait since 2002 and has 6 books to his credit, the author is Dr. Savio Gomes – originally hailing from Tivim, now settled in Bandra, Mumbai.
Dr. Savio writes under his pen name Ruster Keaton. Many of his books have been covered by publications such as Midday Asian Age Hindustan Times Deccan Chronicle etc.
The soft-spoken writer is a financial advisor who has worked in the finance field on projects in over 27 cities in India, also in Armenia, UK, Australia, the USA, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kenya.
