Most of our star Goan artistes living abroad have an appeal that goes beyond geographical boundaries. They have their hearts in Goa and are now performing internationally – online or on YouTube, catching everyone’s attention.

One such star artiste who has caught the imagination of Goans globally is – Polly de Curtorim – a drummer, composer of songs, singer, DJ, anchor, online singer, one-man band – all in one.

His real name is Jose Paulo Fernandes, but he is more popular by his stage and screen name as Polly de Curtorim since his school days.

𝙋𝙊𝙋𝙐𝙇𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙏𝙔 & 𝙁𝘼𝙈𝙀 

Polly has been active in Konkani world for nearly 30 years; he has acted, and composed over 200 songs.

He has over a dozen songs on his YouTube channel, his Konkani song ‘Blue Whale’ has been one of the most popular, however, it ran into an uncalled dispute with YouTube indefinitely warping its popularity & views.

The song is one of Polly’s best (Check: https://youtu.be/7lJ0yzhV_No ) among other songs such as 'Corona', and 'Retir.'

Passionate as he is, Polly has a meaningful Audio-CD called ‘Devak Vengoi’ and a VCD titled ‘Jezu Munxeachea Rupan’ to his credit.

The talented artiste will feature in 𝙄𝙓𝙏𝙏𝘼 𝙐𝙂𝘿𝘿𝘼𝙎 𝙏𝙐𝙕𝙊, a musical tribute to late Cajetan de Sanvordem, set to be premiered on the OTT platform - YouTube, soon. 

The show directed by Shahu Almeida with full-on entertainment for global Goans comprises of a number of superstars from Goa, Kuwait & London.

𝙋𝙊𝙇𝙇𝙔 𝘿𝙀 𝘾𝙐𝙍𝙏𝙊𝙍𝙄𝙈 - 𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙇𝙔 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙎

Polly was born to late Antonio Fernandes from Curtorim and Joaquina Coelho from Damon, Raia.

After his schooling at St. Xavier's Curtorim, Polly did his higher studies at Chowgules, and Shree Damodar colleges. He is a graduate in B. Com with honors in Accounts & Finance.

Polly initially started acting as a comedian and a singer in annual church plays staged by the Legion of Mary Group under St. Alex Church, Curtorim where Polly was President of the group. He was also a member of the church choir where his talent in singing was further developed.

Polly was a renowned drummer as well and ran his own beat-group between 1988 to 1992 called ‘HEAVEN-17’ which was popular in South Goa for weddings, events and beat shows. 

Later he went to work in Doha, Qatar where he worked from 1993 to 2012 and acted in a number of one-act plays mostly as a ‘hero’.  

Along with Maurice Pereira, and friend late Comedian Luis Dias, Polly helped organize a number of dramas of legendary Aristides Dias such as ‘Divorce’, ‘Doia’, ‘Koidi’, etc.  

Polly was one of the persons instrumental in taking Goa’s nightingale Lorna first time abroad to Doha for the ‘Doia’ show. 

For nearly 10 years, Polly also assisted in organizing a number of Goan dramas of mega directors such as Roseferns, Samuel Carvalho, Mario Menezes, Comedian Agostinho, etc.

𝙇𝙄𝙁𝙀 𝘼𝘽𝙍𝙊𝘼𝘿 – 𝘿𝙊𝙃𝘼 & 𝙇𝙊𝙉𝘿𝙊𝙉

Polly had a very steady job in Doha, working as a Senior Storekeeper with Qatar Airways. Yet he chose to leave Doha and went to London in 2011.

Currently, he works for the Thales Group in London, and in his free time does one-man shows, DJs, etc, and regularly goes LIVE singing English and Konkani songs. Polly has a great fan-following on Facebook. His friends' list is overflowing, he remains one of the most popular Goan artiste regularly performing online.

Polly’s one-man-band Melodians is popular at many Goan parties, functions, and events.

He has been to Kuwait to sing in Maestro Shahu’s last musical show in 2019 – 'Ugddas Dovrun Ghele.'

Happily married to Cathy Antao hailing from Chandor, the couple has 3 children -- elder daughter Johanna, son Johan, and youngest Eleanor.

Since 2013, the family has been living in Wembley, London – UK.
