Cayman Star to Perform in Online Musical

Rafael de Macasana - Goa, Tiatr

By Gasper Crasto/Kuwait

Konkani art & artistes have walked a long way with Goans settled abroad exhibiting their love for our mother tongue in various parts of the globe.

Goans in faraway Cayman Islands of the Caribbeans are closely connected as well although they are almost on the other side of the planet; they have always kept the fire of our culture alive.

One of the Goans who has strived to keep the Konkani flame burning in an alien land is veteran Goan star Rafael Noel popularly known as Rafael de Macasana. He has been working in Cayman since 14th February 2006.

Hailing from Povacao, Macasana, Rafael’s style and voice has a ‘typical’ impact of great Goan tiatr singers.

The talented artiste will feature in 𝙄𝙓𝙏𝙏𝘼 𝙐𝙂𝘿𝘿𝘼𝙎 𝙏𝙐𝙕𝙊, a musical tribute to late Cajetan de Sanvordem, set to be premiered on the OTT platform - YouTube, soon.

ABOUT RAFAEL DE MACASANA

Rafael has acted in ‘zomnivele khell’ & dramas right from a very young age.

He has written and acted in a number of ‘khell-tiatrs’ and dramas during his years in Goa. He also plays the trumpet as a hobby.

While he has produced and acted in 4 dramas written by Kenny Ferns from Velim, Rafael’s only major ‘tiatr’ in Goa that he wrote & directed was titled as ‘Pap’.

On the professional stage, he has performed for renowned directors including Roseferns dramatic troupe (for Thapott), Milagres de Chandor, Joe de Macasana, Bernard de Chandor, Philip Almeida, etc, and toured many places.

Rafael’s love for Konkani dramas is unmatched; in recent times he has travelled to Kuwait and Bahrain from Cayman to sing in musical shows directed by Maestro Shahu.

The soft-spoken star was inspired by his son to sing songs, however, it was Maestro Shahu who has revived Rafael’s love towards the art of singing on stage.

Rafael has staged 4 Konkani dramas and 4 Musical shows on Cayman Island.

Titles of his dramas are: ‘Mhozo Ugddas Korat’, ‘Ulo’, and ‘Mhaka Khuim Dovorta,’ which was later staged as an English play ‘Where Do You Keep Me’.

Rafael’s last drama was ‘Anik Nam’ (No More) in 2018 featuring Cayman-based Goan actors and Goan superstars Prince Jacob, John D’Silva, Francis de Tuem with music by Maestro Shahu.
