A new generation of Goan female singers are challenging prejudices of male superstars and making breathtaking waves across the globe.
Among the glamorous, upcoming singers is Canacona born, Kuwait-based singer Michelle Rebello.
Daughter of Rita and Domingos Rebello, Michelle’s musical career started when she was spotted singing for her school and parish choir groups.
Right from an early age, Michelle participated in various singing competitions at school, and continued her art at college and parish events, and won many awards on the way.
In 2016, Michelle won 2nd place at the All Goa Singing Competition ‘Mhozo Tallo Aikat’ organized by Pilar Society’s Fr. Agnel School of Music.
In the same year (2016), she won the 1st Prize for Voice of Canacona.
In 2018, Michelle participated in the prestigious All-Goa ‘Goencho Avaz’ singing contest and was among the top finalists.
During the time, she was introduced to a Goan pop band called ‘Royal Status’ by Mr. Nazareth Barreto who taught her much about the finer skills of singing and music.
Michelle sang with Nazareth in his duo-band, and hosted many shows. She also sang with Marshon Fernandes in a duo band called ‘Revive’.
A SINGING SENSATION
Michelle’s musical vocation began to move up when she started doing a number of YouTube videos.
“Among musical instruments, violin is my favorite and I am currently learning to play the ukulele,” says Michelle.
In 2019, Agnelo Antonio Fernandes approached Michelle and asked her to join his duo band in Dubai’s Viva Goa where she worked for 3 years. Michelle says she got to learn all the standard songs and popular music under Agnelo’s able guidance.
“It was a great stint working in Dubai,” reveals Michelle.
June 2022 saw Michelle move to Kuwait after her marriage to Macberth Fernandes who has been most encouraging source in her life.
“Singing will always be a part of me throughout my life,” says Michelle.
Michelle is set to glamorize Maestro Shahu’s musical show by her magnetic presence and power-packed voice.
