Kuwait Oct 2009: Blackslade, India's famous band from New Delhi, rocked the Crowne Plaza ballroom with pulsating music and great showmanship as the capacity crowd jammed at the Navelim Youth Centre (NYC) organized NITE O'ROSES recently.

The evening was full of fun: dancing, partying, enjoying the warmth of friends and being delighted at every turn. The celebration was a perfect ambience in the background of fabulous décor by Spectrum Decorators, dazzling lighting and lavish luxury. The hall was emblazoned with streaming illumination that created a luxuriant dancing ambience; dazzling lights of various hues swirled every nook and corner of the ballroom.

Identity of NITE O'ROSES

The identity of Nite O'Roses comes from an organized history of 50 years' traditional dance held annually back in Goa on the feast day of Our Lady of Rosary, Navelim. NYC Kuwait thought of breathing life into it naming their annual nite in respect of this neglected festival in Goa. The theme of the dance was: "Inspiring you to love unconditionally."

Part of the proceeds generated from the dance will be sent to Nazareth Home for the Aged, charitable trust that looks after the aged at Navelim - Goa, ensuring senior citizens live out their days in comfort and dignity.

‘Blackslades' bring down the house

The dance was set rolling with local darlings 2..S#arp hitting off with melodious numbers, danceable beat and simple harmonies. Band leader Shahu Almeida gelled extremely well with the crooning of Clevie Fernandes. Shahu also performed on the saxophone. Alisha Fernandes, daughter of NYC President Mr. Agnello Fernandes, teamed up with 2..S#arp on the violin for a couple of numbers.

..But it was the BLACKSLADE that kept the crowd grooving to the beat all night long. They played a medley of songs comprising pop, rock, hip-hop, ‘bachna eh hasina', reggae, etc. Their brand of music and exploding vocals by lead singer Ronald accompanied by exceptional showmanship by Michael Almeida (Keyboards), Menino (Lead Guitar), Anton (Bass/Band Leader) and Soccor (Drums) was well received by the audience who were seen singing along in harmony and rooted the band from time to time. Ronald was an instant favorite with the audience for his personal attention in encouraging and ushering everyone on to the floor.

Jive Competition

A Jive Competition was one of the highlights of the show that imbued a sense of delirium among the audience. The judges for the competition were Simon D'Silva (Doha Qatar), Astrid Fortes and The Rebellos. It was a meaningful adjudication from the judges.. Rony Lobo and Paloma D'Sa won the jackpot. These two dancers could be glimpsed in a seeming spontaneity of professional dancers. Their harmonizing personalities made them one of the most attractive "jivers" on the floor.
