Reema Lobo crowned Colva Queen 2009

Kuwait: Colva United Centre (CUC – Kuwait) celebrated their annual traditional ‘Colva Day 2009’ on Friday 30th October 2009 at Hotel Asia-Asia, Kuwait City.

The formal function attended by members, friends, well wishers and invited guests commenced with a welcome address by CUC President Jacob Fernandes. It was a festive occasion and everyone enjoyed the evening. Kuwait’s top deejays DJ Mario and DJ Switch kept the guests moving on to the floor with their selected and quality music. Master of ceremonies Merwyn Pereira assisted by CUC Cultural Secretary Tony Viegas compered the event.

The highlight of the day was a beauty pageant which was contested by 15 beautiful, young women. The judges for the contest were notable dignitaries Surender Kumar- Manager, Air India (Kuwait), Mrs. Leona Rodrigues – Principal of JGT School, Mumbai and Mario Vaz - Section Head - Executive Department M. A. Kharafi & Sons Company.

The pageant was sponsored by Qatar Airways. CUC also ensured that the guests walked away with loads of spot prizes as well as a number of prizes were presented on the occasion. A return air ticket to Goa sponsored by Jet Airways was given for the novelty winners while a bumper prize return air-ticket to Goa sponsored by Air India was given away for the winners of the hampers. Stacey and partner were selected as the best dancing couple by members of the CUC Managing Committee.

Well known Goan personality Mr. Salvador Dias was also felicitated by CUC for his dedicated social work towards the Goan Community in Kuwait.

The hall was beautifully decorated by Cindy of Party Makers while the sound was provided by Brian. The action moments were captured by Rivon Gomes, professional photographer.

CUC General Secretary Menino Ratus proposed a vote of thanks and on behalf of the managing committee thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the memorable event.
