Our Lady of Rosary, Navelim, Goa

Kuwait: Navelim Youth Centre (Kuwait) celebrated Navelim Feast of Our Lady of Rosary with a thanksgiving mass at Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait, on 21st November 2014.

Later in the evening, Navelim, under the leadership of President Norman Noronha hosted a dinner party for club members and families at Avanti Palace, Hawally. The place was packed with Navelim villagers living in Kuwait along with friends and well-wishers.

A lovely ‘butterfly’ centre-piece specially arranged by Vincy D’Cuncha and Steffie donned the hall while the other décor and ‘kermes’ exhibited in the hall gave a perfect festal look.

Esparansa Crasto began the evening with a prayer.

Kuwait’s popular musician Maestro Shahu provided live music singing beautiful medleys accompanied by sweet-voiced Clemmie Almeida. Ashwin Pires and Allan Fernandes acted as DJs of the evening while compere Esparansa & Gasper Crasto kept the crowd engrossed throughout the night.

Navelim President Norman Noronha speaking on the occasion highlighted the significance of Navelim feast of Our Lady of Rosary in Kuwait and the unity of Navelkars to get together in celebration.

The celebrations continued with a cultural program organized by the Cultural Secretary Eusebio Fernandes in coordination with Tase Noronha. Songs, dances, games, and a unique fashion show demonstrating achievements of Navelim-Kuwait over the years were performed by talented Navelim members.

Johny Luis, one of the senior members of Navelim Youth Centre was felicitated on the occasion. Johny Luis was honored with a memento at the hands of Sports Secretary Avelino Dias in recognition for his immense contribution towards the club. Speaking on the occasion, NYC Advisor Agnello A.S. Fernandes said, “Johny is one of the pillars of Navelim club who always stood for unity among its members.”

Johny, who first came to Kuwait in the early 1980s was one of the foremost members instrumental in establishing Navelim Youth Centre in Kuwait. He was highly active in sports activities being a player and team manager of the club.

"I am leaving with fond memories of Kuwait and the friends that I have made over the years," said an emotional Johny in his farewell speech.

Virginia Luis and Norman Noronha also spoke on the occasion. 
In the cultural program, Vice President of the club Katty de Navelim sang a specially composed song on Our Lady of Rosary, while Olinda Dias and her brother Agnelo sang a rhythmic song ‘Goa’ bringing in a Goan ambience at the party. Esparansa and Gasper Crasto were at their usual best singing their song ‘Fashion’.

Marissa Noronha, Milagres Rodrigues and Aerosmith Almeida performed a dance unveiling the thoughts of a possessive father, while Miss Ritaz, an Egyptian girl and a guest at the party sang an awesome Hindi song to everyone's surprise which was greatly applauded.

The beauty of the evening was the meticulous Fashion Show by the kids coordinated by Tase Noronha, Britto Pereira, Virginia Carneiro and Esparansa Crasto.

A number of gifts and spot prizes sponsored by Mr. Luis Lopes, proprietor - Jacqueline Beauty Saloon Da Spa (Goa) were distributed.

Mr. Afzal Khan and Vibin of Malabar Gold & Diamonds were special guests at the party.

Mona Fernandes had a special prayer before dinner. Eden & Evalon Fernandes, and Aldridge Monteiro played instrumental music on keyboards and guitar which was loved by the guests.

Later, General Secretary of Navelim Travis Rodrigues proposed a vote of thanks thanking all guests, Navelkars, members and their families for the support and contribution in making the occasion a festive event.

Earlier at the Holy Family Cathedral, souvenirs commemorating the feast of Our Lady of Rosary were distributed to devotees after the thanksgiving mass. The specially designed souvenirs were brought in from Goa by Navelim's senior club member Luis D'Silva.

Navelim Youth Centre managing committee for the season 2013~14 was earlier introduced to the guests in a unique Navelim Trudge by Jenny D'Souza.

The descendants of Navelim village in Goa, around the world devoutly hold on to the tradition of celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Rosary which takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of November. The feast in Kuwait is celebrated on the following day.
