Singing has been a traditional form of entertainment for Goans in the past hundreds of years.
Today, there are a variety of opportunities where people can utilize singing talent. Ranging from community events to publicized talent shows, one can put themselves out there to get their voice heard.
Here’s one such youngster who makes herself heard, not only through her voice but music too, and is well set to accomplish her dreams.
Born in Goa and raised in Muscat, she is a singer, song composer, musician and actress.
MEET VELROSE PEREIRA – A MULTI-TALENTED YOUNG GOAN GIRL.
EARLY YEARS
Born to Suzie and Konkani singer-father Avers Pereira hailing from St. Estevam, Goa, Velrose studied at the Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir, Muscat, Oman.
Velrose’s younger sister Velriza is also imbibed with love for Konkani and Goan music. The sister is an aspiring drummer and has featured in 3 audio albums as a singer.
While in school, Velrose was crowned ‘Miss All-rounder’ of the Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir in the year 2014.
Velrose has been singing at functions and programs right from a very young age of 7 years, she sang on Goa TV at this age.
The multi-talented has played the organ at her Muscat parish since the age of 12 and was part of the children’s choir since she was 6 years of age.
Velrose now plays the keyboard, trumpet and the baritone with great ease and fluency.
After finishing her schooling, she attained a Degree in Theatre at the York University, Toronto, Canada.
IN THE LIMELIGHT
By her enthusiasm and sheer talent, Velrose was able to fast-track her way into limelight and brush shoulders with celebrity artistes of the Goan stage.
So far, Velrose has performed with Lorna, Lawry Travasso, Ben Evangelisto, Bushka D’souza, Prince Jacob, Acacio Pereira, etc.
Velrose played a stellar role in Prince Jacob’s 2013 drama Pap Tujem Prachit Mhojem which received rave acclaim from Konkani lovers all over Goa, Pune and Mumbai.
Velrose has also acted in Ester Noronha’s film ‘Kantaar’ that was released earlier this year.
As a musician on trumpet, the exceptional girl features in audio albums ‘Familicho Ekvott’ produced by her father Avers Pereira, and ‘Kallokak Bhienaka’ by Savio Rodrigues.
Velrose also plays trumpet for the song ‘Jitichem Kazar’ sung by Lorna in Avers Pereira’s album titled ‘Posko’.
Among many of her accomplishments, Velrose has represented Goa at the Indian Goddess of Beauty contest held in Goa in the year 2017.
Velrose's latest activity (February 2019) has been the release of a video on YouTube titled 'Niz Mog' which infact was shot 3 years back. The video features her along with Frenzie Vito Rodrigues.
FORTHCOMING PROJECTS & ASPIRATIONS
In her forthcoming projects, Velrose features in a couple of video singles to be released later this year, with Acacio Pereira, Mac Dias (Canada) and Frenzie Vito.
In her own words, Velrose says, “I want to unite Goans all over the world through my music and spread Goenkarponn everywhere I go. I also wish to inspire Goans who have gone astray and far away from Goa to someday come back home to our motherland.”
The soft-spoken girl, who has been an advocate for spreading Goan culture and ‘awareness of challenges faced by Goans' to people in North America especially in Canada and elsewhere, also aspires to someday open a Fine Arts Academy in Goa to give back to Goa all the knowledge that she possesses through her theatre degree.
WATCH VELROSE perform as an entertaining artiste and play the trumpet on stage at the Gulf Voice of Goa mega event scheduled to take place at Khaldiya University, Kuwait on 22nd February 2019.
The Competition – a Tribute to Legendary Goan musician Chris Perry will feature a host of celebrity stars and artistes.
The mega event organized by Goan Cultural Centre.
Organized in aid of the Bahrain Cathedral, the event is supported by well-known Goan NRIs in the Middle-East - Mr. Carmo Santos, Agnello Fernandes and Bosco Leitao (Kuwait), Simon D’Silva (Doha Qatar), Gabriel Crasto and Francis Correia (Bahrain), Gabby de Chandor (Dubai), Anthony Lourenco (Muscat) and Joe Fernandes (Saudi Arabia).
The main competition is classified for Gulf residents of Goan origin. 2 participants from each country are shortlisted to sing at the Grand finale that will see the crowning of best Gulf Goan male and female singers.
Apart from the competition, entertaining songs, dances and hilarious comedy skits will be a special feature of the show.
A number of delegates from the Gulf States, Goa, and Kuwait are expected to be in attendance.
A band ensemble with a contingent of musicians led by Kuwait’s Maestro Soccor D’Mello and Goa’s Norman Cardozo will form a fusion of music to energize the evening.
