Qatar Finalists for Gulf Voice of Goa

Kuwait: Natcey Barretto (Female Category) and John De Sa (Male Category) will represent Qatar in the First ever GULF VOICE OF GOA Konkani singing competition.

The mega event organized by Goan Cultural Centre is scheduled to take place Friday 22nd February 2019 at Khaldiya University Auditorium, Kuwait.

Organized in aid of the Bahrain Cathedral, the event is supported by well-known Goan NRIs in the Middle-East - Mr. Carmo Santos, Agnello Fernandes and Bosco Leitao (Kuwait), Simon D’Silva (Doha Qatar), Gabriel Crasto and Francis Correia (Bahrain), Gabby de Chandor (Dubai), Anthony Lourenco (Muscat) and Joe Fernandes (Saudi Arabia).

Performing artistes apart from Kuwait artistes include Goa’s Melody King Lawry Travasso, Celebrity singer/musician Velrose Pereira (Oman), Goencho Avaz winner Classy Cardozo (Goa), Rhythmic singer Michael D’Silva (Goa), Celebrated Thomazino Cardozo & Irene Cardozo (Goa), Sanio Fernandes (Dubai), Avers Pereira (Oman), Goencho Tallo (UAE) Winner Florinda Cardozo (Sharjah), etc.

NATCEY BARRETTO – ENERGETIC & EXCEPTIONAL

A blessed child, born in a small, beautiful village of Sarzora, Goa, Natcey is the eldest of two daughters of Mr. & Mrs. Folie Cardozo – a once popular musical folk playwright for AIR Panaji.

A girl of exceptional qualities, Natcey accomplished a scholastic career in the Convent of her own village run by the Franciscan Sisters. 

A brilliant student of her time Natcey participated in various school programs, dramas, dance, and other social activities.

Natcey is a fine actress with natural flair, and her aim was always to become an actress. She acted with village amateurs on Doordarshan and in Konkani local dramas in Goa, and also participated in youth programs aired by All India Radio, Panaji. 

After finishing her school, Natcey graduated in Arts from Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao. While in college she won many prizes in singing competitions as well as for acting. 

After Natcey came to Qatar, she staged her first one-act play in Konkani in April 2006. Her splendid acting was applauded by everyone with a standing ovation.

The energetic woman is also an active member of the Good Shepherd Choir of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Qatar. Over the years, she has participated in many social activities in Qatar. 

Natcey is an employee of Exxon Mobil Qatar Limited in the Law Department. She is residing in Qatar for the past 21 years with her husband Melwyn Barretto and is blessed with a son Sherwyn Barretto.

JOHN DESA – A MULTI-FACETED PERSONALITY 

John Desa hails from Cortalim, Goa.

John is a passionate music lover and loves to sing songs particularly Konkani songs. He has been singing from childhood in school and for village socials. 

John has composed a few songs and performed in Tiatrs (Goa and Qatar). He is a regular performer at the Annual Goa Day events in Qatar.

One of the best songs John has sung is on the Life of Mother Theresa in 2016 (Lyrics by Peter Camilo Britton). In 2011, John won the first prize in (men’s category) at the Konkani Hymn Singing Competition organized by the Qatar Church.

Whenever he visits Goa, John joins the George Cart Serenaders Group and he is well-known to be leading the litany singing at his friends’ residences in Qatar.

John is a devoted sports lover and takes part annually in the Qatar Torch Tower Stairs Climbing Race of climbing 1304 stairs, with his best timing being 19 minutes.

John is strongly involved in social work in Qatar and Goa. He has been the past president of Goan Sports Club, Qatar.  He is into environmental protection and currently involved in Save Kesarval Spring Movement, Cortalim, being its Convener.

GULF VOICE OF GOA

The main competition is classified for Gulf residents of Goan origin. 2 participants from each country are shortlisted to sing at the Grand finale that will see the crowning of best Gulf Goan male and female singers.

Apart from the competition, entertaining songs, dances and hilarious comedy skits will be a special feature of the show.

A number of delegates and dignitaries from the Gulf States, Goa, and Kuwait are expected to be in attendance.

A band ensemble with a contingent of musicians led by Kuwait’s Maestro Soccor D’Mello and Goa’s Norman Cardozo will form a fusion of music to energize the evening.
