The name of Jose Mascarenhas is quite identical with Goan Tiatr fans.
Hailing from the popular tiatr-village of Benaulim, and having composed and sung several songs to date, Jose Mascarenhas continues to shine on Konkani stage acting in ‘comedy’ as well as leading character roles.
The multi-talented star features in a number of tiatrs, and videos, and is much popular for his singing. His songs are known for highlighting real-life incidents and conclude with great, moralistic messages.
One has to just google ‘Jose Mascarenhas’, to find plenty of videos on YouTube, he has been interviewed by Prudent Media as well.
𝙍𝙄𝙎𝙀 𝙏𝙊 𝙁𝘼𝙈𝙀
A chance encounter with popular & fastest Goan composer Edwin D'Costa at Superstar Jose Rod’s wedding reception back in the 90’s turned them into close friends; their friendship continues to collab till date with the production of new videos one after another.
During the carnival season, Jose Mascarenhas writes Zomnivele khell also. He takes up projects of singing and writing lyrics for anniversary songs, wedding toast songs, etc.
Recently, Jose also took part in Hunvar, a tiatr directed by Marcos Gonsalves that won the first place at Kala Acadamy’s 9th Tiatr competition 2024 - Group B.
Jose won first place in the duet category ‘Xapai Ani Natinichem Natem’ song sung by himself and Enly Barbosa. The song was extremely emotional, as a result, the whole auditorium was in tears.

Jose Mascarenhas worked in Dubai for a while.
After returning back to Goa, he acted in Menino Mario & Eddie Fernandes’ Tiatr Bhaddiache Goenkar Tumi Nizache Goenkar Ami, as a ‘Lamanni’ in a negative role. His solo song was a great hit in this tiatr.
Later, in Comedian Ambe’s super hit Tiatr Faleam, his solo called Online Medicine was highly appreciated by the audience.
Vatt Visorlo was another superhit tiatr in which once again Jose’s solo Suicide was a runaway hit.
Jose also sang in Cruz Pinto’s Lenten show Sonsta To Bhagivont, his solo Domestic Violence was well-appreciated
Currently, Jose Mascarenhas is acting in Franky Gonsalves’ Tiatr Osadd, singing the Opening Chorus, and another solo as well as a duet.

Jose Mascarenhas’ first song ‘Police Guneavkar’ was written and sung by him in Edwin D’Costa’s production ‘Nouro’. The song was based on a Cavelosim incident and was an instant hit.
It was at this stage that Jose was christened as a ‘Rising Hero of the Konkani Arena’.
Some Jose’s own albums are Sasumaim, Jurament, KTM Mhoji Bhett Tuka, etc.
Jose also features in other popular audio cassettes of Edwin D’Costa namely Postman, Bhangar, St, Francis Xavier, Mother Thereza, Fr. Savio, Dorji, Mahatma Gandhi, Kamdar, Livrament Saibinn, Amori, etc.
Jose is on record having sung over 300 hundred songs mostly for Edwin D’costa productions. One of his memorable songs features in John D’Silva’s video film.
In Menino Mario’s audio cassette ‘Devache Kaide’, his song ‘Randd Ostori’ was an instant hit.

The show directed by Shahu Almeida with full entertainment comprises a number of stars from Goa, Kuwait & London.
