Kuwait: It was an evening filled with warmth, nostalgia, and heartfelt emotions as Navelim Stars came together to honor Braz Pires, a beloved Navelkar who dedicated decades of his life to the Goan community in Kuwait.

The farewell, organized in his honor, was not just a send-off — it was a celebration of friendship, service, and the spirit of Goa that Braz carried wherever he went.

The lively beats of DJ Platini set the tone for the evening, creating an atmosphere brimming with laughter and memories.

A beautifully crafted memento was presented to Braz, symbolizing the deep appreciation of his countless contributions to the community.

In his toast, Gasper Crasto, a known personality among Goans, spoke warmly of Braz’s dedication:

“𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 — 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆, 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀.”

Having first arrived in Kuwait in 1979, Braz began his career with Al Othman Catering Company, later joining the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait (CRSK) in 1992 (after the Invasion), where he served with distinction until his retirement.

But beyond his professional life, Braz’s true legacy lies in his community service.

As a founding member of Navelim Youth Centre (NYC) — established in 1987 — he played a pivotal role in uniting Goans through sports, culture, and fellowship.

His leadership, humility, and sense of togetherness made NYC one of the most vibrant Goan clubs in Kuwait winning almost every trophy.

Senior NYC members Avelino Dias, Norman Noronha, Maurice D’Costa, Elias Luis, Simon Dias and Britto Pereira fondly reminisced about his tireless commitment, praising his humility and his ability to bring people together with genuine warmth.

The function was compered by Tase Noronha.

With emotion in his voice, Braz stated:

“𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘒𝘶𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴.”

After more than four decades of service, Braz now leaves Kuwait to return to his beloved Goa, where he will be reunited with his wife Perpetua Ramos Pires.

He leaves behind his son Ashwin, daughter-in-law Cynthia, grandson Ezy, and a circle of friends who will forever cherish his kindness, laughter, and quiet strength.

As the music faded and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes, there was a shared realization — some people leave not just footprints, but heartprints that last long after they are gone.
