KUWAIT: The original film ‘NIRMON’, produced in the year 1966, remains one of the classic hits ever made in Konkani.
Nirmon's immortal songs, especially ‘Claudia’ and ‘Dol Mhojea Bai’, are synonymous with every Goan household as the most favorite lullabies for kids, and ever blooming to this day.
NIRMON remains the only Konkani movie to be remade into a bollywood movie. It was remade as ‘Taqdeer’ in which Shalini Mardolkar, as in the original film, acted the lead role.
Taqdeer was dubbed into seven other languages.
Many people who saw the original film starring Shalini Mardolkar, C.AIvares, Anthony D'Sa, Jacint Vaz, Antonette Mendes, Ophelia, Souza Ferrao, J. P. Souzalin, etc, still term the old classic better than the recent Konkani remake.
However, almost half a century after the original black-and-white national award winning movie, Goans and Mangaloreans have thronged back to watch the destiny of Claudia on a large screen.
WHAT MAKES NIRMON A MASTERPIECE?
Set in the twenty-first century with a fresh cast, new screenplay and improved dialogues, the remake retains all the elements of the original movie from the storyline to the soulful songs, although with a few pinches and twists.
The new film has Anagha Joshi starring as Claudia, and Antonio Crasto as her husband. Veteran C. D'Silva is the oldest actor in the film.
The remake premiered in 2015, has taken every audience across the Konkan world on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It is sure to stir spirits of Kuwait audience too.
