She played the lead role in the epic Goan drama ‘Sucorina’ that created history in the tiatr world in 1984 when it clocked a double century within a year.
She got married in 1986 and immediately came to Kuwait, leaving the world of dramas and the Konkani stage that made her famous.
We talk about Sucorina Fernandes from Sanguem who captivated everyone’s hearts by her acting and angelic beauty once upon a time.
Much known as Sucorina de Sanguem, she acted in several ‘khell’ and also featured on All India Radio plays.
In recent years, Sucorina has rendered over a dozen songs at different events, and has few songs on YouTube – with much of the music provided by Maestro Shahu.

Sucorina first acted in Andrew de Sanguem’s drama staged at the village feast. Later, she went on to act for Patrick Dourado, A.M. Pacheco, Pascoal Rodrigues, Ligorio Fernandes, and Rosary Ferns’ all-ladies drama for which she was awarded best actress.
However, it was her lead role in Menino de Bandar’s drama ‘Sucorina’ that caught everyone’s attention. She went on to act for the director’s other famous ventures like ‘Indiechi Maim’, ‘Duddu ani Ginean’, etc.
She last acted on the professional stage in Prince Jacob’s ‘Kagot’ drama before settling down with her husband in Kuwait.
Happily married to Jerome D’Costa from Panchwaddi, Shiroda – a humble singer-composer, the couple have worked and lived in Kuwait since long. They have 2 daughters named Jafna and Jadriya.
The record-breaking Sucorina is set to feature in 𝙄𝙓𝙏𝙏𝘼 𝙐𝙂𝘿𝘿𝘼𝙎 𝙏𝙐𝙕𝙊, a musical tribute to late Cajetan de Sanvordem, set to be premiered on the OTT platform - YouTube, soon. ____________________
